Honduran Fried Chicken (POLLO FRITO HONDUREÑO) Deliciousness right here!!!

Hello everyone!

I don’t know about you but I really enjoy Fried Chicken. It’s comforting, juicy, and just delicious! You can eat it plain and it will still taste good! I really think there are so many recipes for how to prepare fried chicken but this recipe is my favorite. It’s very unique because it comes from my husband’s country, Honduras. This type of chicken is usually eaten with fried plantains, cabbage, cheese, red salsa, and a special sauce with pickled onions. Honestly, I never knew fried chicken could be eaten that way until I had it for my very first time. This is how Pollo con Tajadas looks when prepared. Trust me its delicious! But for now here is my recipe for the Fried Chicken!

Some tips for making this chicken are the following:

  1. Try to marinate the chicken for a least 30 minutes to get that wonderful flavor. Honestly, it would be best if you could do an hour but not everything goes as planned!
  2. I used a Deep Fryer to cook my chicken just because I feel it gave me a crunchier texture and it was easier to keep the oil temperature consistent. I also fried my chicken twice to make sure that no chicken leg was raw inside.
  3. Try to make all your sides beforehand so the main focus can be on the chicken because it is the star of the dish. This always helps me make sure that my chicken comes out perfect!

Here’s what you’ll need:

1.5 lbs of chicken drumstick, thighs, or breast (whichever is your favorite)

(1.5 Libras de piernas de pollo)

Oil for frying (Aceite)

Flour (Harina)

2 Eggs (2 Huevos)

3 Tbsp Yellow Mustard (3 Cucharas de Yellow Mustard)

3 Tbsp Worcestershire sauce (3 Cucharas de Salsa Inglesa)

1 Tbsp Chicken flavor Bullion (1 Cuchara de caldo sabor a pollo)

2 Tbsp Cumin Powder (2 Cucharas de Polvo de Cumino)

1 Tbsp Oregano (1 Cuchara de Oregano)

2 Tbsp Garlic Powder (2 Cucharas de Polvo de Ajo)

  1. Combine all the ingredients for the marinade in a large mixing bowl.
  2. Toss chicken in the marinade, then cover and place in the refrigerator to marinate for a least 30 minutes.
  3. Start getting your oil ready for frying, if using a deep fryer set the temperature to 365° Fahrenheit. If you are frying the chicken on the stove in a pot, make sure you check the temperature is at 365º Fahrenheit.
  4. In a small mixing bowl scramble your 2 eggs and set aside on a plate or leave in the bowl. On a medium-sized plate, get your flour ready. You will use about 1 cup of flour.
  5. Toss chicken in the egg mixture first then in the flour, make sure your chicken is covered in flour completely. Then, plan your chicken in the oil to cook. 10-15 minutes and your chicken should be done. If needed, turn chicken over halfway if the oil does not cover the chicken completely. Once the chicken is done being cooked, drain the oil and place in a container for the chicken to rest then serve!
